My RAID Battery is going to end the world!!

Twice in as many weeks I have had communication along the lines of: The battery on your RAID card has failed and needs replace immediately. As any power outage or reboot could lose all our data!! And this was from so called IT personnel

“any power outage or reboot could lose all our data “ oh really, so how do we shut it down to change the battery, as the cache memory has to be removed to release the battery. And I can assure you that is more likely to loss data if the server is still on during this process than anything else!

Any “proper” server admin would know that when the battery fails the write cache is switched off by the RAID card in order to protect the data! A RAID cards main propose in life is to retain your data, wouldn’t be very good if it dumped all your data the moment it’s battery (which is a serviceable part) dies, would it?

Dear IT “Professionals” please find out what the equipment your support actually does!!
